IWK 250 Rescheduled to 2021
JAMES RIVER, NS (August 12, 2020) – The 2020 edition of the IWK 250 Presented by Steve Lewis Super Race Weekend, originally scheduled for July 16 to 18 and postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions, has been rescheduled for July 22 to 24, 2021.
“We’ve waited in hopes restrictions would relax enough where it would be possible to hold the IWK 250 this year,” said Paul McLean, General Manager for Riverside. “Unfortunately, with our short season and the amount of time it takes to prepare for such a large event, even if things changed now we’ve run out of time to do it properly. We remain hopeful we could still run a smaller event or two this year.”
Prior to rescheduling the IWK 250 until 2021, management has been in continual contact with government authorities and also explored options to hold a scaled-back event, but since none were feasible for such a marquee event the tough decision was made to reschedule for next year.
The events which were scheduled for August 15 and 29 are on hold at this point with hopes they can be held in some fashion before the season ends, pending COVID-19 restrictions and start-up of the touring series scheduled to participate.
“We’re disappointed,” said MacLean. “But we totally respect and appreciate the rules put in place by authorities to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 in our area. We will continue to stay in touch with the powers that be and if things change where we can hold an event this year, we’ll let everyone know ASAP. We look forward to that time when we can be together again with our Riverside family celebrating our collective resolve to beat this pandemic.”
